Welcome From the Founder

Dear Supporter,

The Wall Street Journal has called the rising childhood obesity rate a “pandemic,” one that will ultimately manifest itself in a wide range of health concerns for our children and our nation. The statistics are staggering: nearly 20 percent of American children are clinically obese—a number that has tripled since 1980—and an additional 15 percent are at risk of becoming overweight. In Michigan, where Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out was launched, the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness has reported that one of every two children in the state is likely to die prematurely from preventable cardiovascular disease or cancer.

My program, Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out (DKWIO) is different—unique and aggressive. By working directly with those hardest hit, the at-risk children in our communities, the program provides the tools to increase mental  and physical health and wellness in a meaningful, sustainable way. DKWIO is a roll-up-the-sleeves, put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is program that delivers valuable information on health, exercise and nutrition to kids and their families through fun, engaging and, most importantly, educational activities.

I urge you to explore our web site to learn more about DKWIO. Whether you work as an educator, civic leader or youth advocate, or just have concerns about the well-being of our children, you can support an impactful change in the health of our young people.

Launching Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out has been an incredibly rewarding and fun experience. The kids express such wonderful appreciation for our efforts and have responded with love, kindness and compassion. Please enjoy our web site, and contact info@dkwio.org with any questions or opportunities.

Sincerely,

Danialle Karmanos
